What you will study

To receive a Master of IT Management, students must complete twelve units in total. This will consist of eight core units and four units from one of our specialisations: Business Administration or Project Management.

In the Data Management unit, you will gain an overall understanding of database concepts and theory.

The Emerging Technology in Business unit explores how innovative technologies influence and shape future business environments, and the role technologies play in society.

The Information Systems Analysis and Design unit explores in-depth the techniques, tools and methods behind information systems.

Develop the ability to successfully identify business security threats, as well as managerial solutions with the Information Systems Security Management unit

Develop a working knowledge of IT within business settings and analyse operations effects with the Managing Digital Enterprise unit

Explore Managing Information Systems from a managerial point of view.

The Industry Research Project is a two-part unit, involving a literature review, and strategic research and data collection methods to fill in any identified research gaps.

This unit introduces students to corporate governance – one of the most important developments in business.

To qualify for entry to the Master of Information Technology Management, you need:

  • A three-year bachelor degree specialising in or majoring in information technology (or a related discipline); or
  • Professional experience equivalent to a cognate Bachelor degree.

In both cases, you must be proficient in English.

Dr Vinh Bui is a lecturer at Southern Cross University the Course Coordinator of the MITM program. His area of expertise in MITM related subjects includes Information System Security Management, Information Systems Analysis and Design and Database Systems Management.

Dr Bui is very passionate about motivating, supporting and sharing knowledge and experience with students, especially those studying online. Aside from his teaching activities, Dr Bui has also contributed to numerous research and development projects in the areas of Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.

Systems Analyst: Enhance productivity by designing and overseeing the development of new or current systems. Use your knowledge to implement new IT solutions or improve current ones, all while strategically increasing workplace efficiency.

Chief Information Officer: Be responsible for a company’s computer systems, ensuring that you are facilitating business goals, while being reliable, resilient and secure. You’ll take charge of your corporation’s entire information architecture (including technological resources, purchases and upgrades), manage teams efficiently and provide invaluable direction.

Business Systems Manager: Oversee the evolution of information systems to ensure various areas of the workplace are running effectively and correctly.

Security Administrator: Manage the security of information systems within your workplace, such as firewalls and anti-virus software, and be responsible for ensuring the safety of the information and communications assets of the company. Develop and supervise security systems to protect company and client data.

Our Master of Information Technology Management is designed to build on the technical skills you have now, and blend that with the management and leadership skills you need.

Units in information systems management and design will develop your skills in analysis, feasibility and enterprise security, while specific units selected from our online MBA develop your capacity to manage and lead people and projects to success.

Each unit runs for seven weeks, with six study periods per year. To gain your Master of IT Management you will complete all 8 core units, and choose 4 units from either the MBA specialisation or Project Management specialisation.

There is also an option to finish earlier with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.
