About Online Learning at SCU

No matter what your work and family commitments hold, Southern Cross University Online has developed a platform that fits around your busy schedule – connect anywhere, at any time.

Studying online with Southern Cross University

At Southern Cross University, we’ve designed online postgraduate courses to suit your busy life, as well as your ambitious career goals.

Fresh, smart and among the most affordable in Australia, our online Masters degrees enable you to take control of your education while studying with one of the world’s best universities under 50 years old (Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, 2018).

Two decades of experience

Although Southern Cross is a relatively young Australian university, we’re one of Australia’s pioneers when it comes to online education. We now have more than 20 years of accredited experience in the field and, at any one time, have more than 5,000 students enrolled in distance education.

When you study with Southern Cross University online, you can:

Study when it’s convenient to your schedule
We’ll leave all the important scheduling decisions up to you. That way you get to choose how much you take on and how quickly you get through your postgraduate qualification. Or how gradually, if that suits you better.

Our dedicated Student Enrolment Advisors are available to help you prepare your application and beyond.

Six intakes per year
Unlike ‘traditional’ on-campus study, we offer six intakes a year. An intake into a study period, which is a bit like a semester, is the time during which you complete a unit of study.

Six study periods give you the chance to complete as many as six units per year. Alternatively, you might study just one or two. You get to choose what works best for you, your work situation and your family. And if things change outside your study world, you can simply sit out a study period if need be.

Study anytime, anywhere
Are you more of a tablet person or a laptop person? Do you prefer to study at a desk or on the way to work? Is your ideal learning time before breakfast or after dinner?

With Southern Cross University’s online Masters courses, it doesn’t matter. As long as you have a device that’s connected to the internet, you can be working towards a Masters degree.

It’s on the go. It’s on your terms. It’s 100% online learning.

Enjoy one-on-one support
Before you get started with university online, you’ll no doubt have questions. Our Student Enrolment Advisors are available to answer any questions, help you choose right course, prepare your application and plan your study schedule per your career goals. You will speak with the one Enrolment Advisor throughout your application and decision-making process, so the journey is as simple and streamlined as possible.

Once you have commenced study, you will be assigned a personal Student Success Advisor. Your Success Advisor will be able to answer course-specific questions, deal with administration queries or provide general assistance with planning and managing your workload.

They can also give you advice while you’re studying, as well as keep you motivated throughout your study journey to help you achieve the best results.

You can get in touch over the phone, by email or via chat – whatever’s easiest for you.

Choose a Masters degree or exit earlier
Many postgraduate degrees, including our online Masters courses, are broken into segments of units. Those segments, when taken in a specific order, make up smaller qualifications within the overall Masters degree. We call them nested qualifications.

Another way of thinking about it is like this: a Masters degree like an MBA is a destination and the nested qualifications, such as Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas, are checkpoints along the way. If you reach the Graduate Certificate, you might decide that you’ve done enough study for now and be happy to finish with that qualification. Or, you might continue on towards the Graduate Diploma. Once you reach that point, you can again choose to stop studying or to continue on to the ultimate destination: the full Masters degree.

It’s just another way we add flexibility to your study experience.
