Matthew-MED testimonial
SCU online MED student Matthew smiling and holding a textbook in a school courtyard.

After two years of full-time teaching, I decided that it was time to further my skills and qualifications. After looking at courses online and speaking with colleagues, I came across the M.Ed being offered by SCU Online. Throughout this course, I am finding that a lot of what I am studying related perfectly to my everyday work in my school.

Aleasa-MED testimonial

The content within the course directly relates to my professional life so I use this time to re-read prescribed texts, research or articles that will help to develop my understanding of the unit as well as develop me professionally. I think it is important to model lifelong learning to my staff and students and this is one way in which I can do that.

Danielle Harris-MED testimonial

The impact of the Master of Education on my career has been enormous. I have gained a greater understanding of Educational Leadership and the theories behind it, which has enabled me to become a better leader in my current educational institution. It has also opened up other leadership opportunities.

Dallas-MED testimonial
SCU online MED graduate Dallas.

All of the education subjects were highly applicable. The assignments were designed in a way that each student could focus on their own school or workplace. The general way each assignment worked was to analyse a particular element of the school and present improvements. In my mind, that's exactly the sort of thing a Principal does and what I aspire to.

SCU Online's Master of Education is accelerated, online learning for busy teachers. The course can be completed in 16 months, part-time. SCU Online offers six intakes per year, meaning students can complete six units in a year. Students will complete 8 units in total for this course.

This course is for current and future school leaders who want to further develop their skills, drive improvement and create positive outcomes for their students, organisation and communities.

Excellent leadership skills are crucial for those wanting to drive improvement and increase the effectiveness of an organisation. In times of unprecedented change and a climate of increased public accountability in the education sector, this course will instil in you the confidence to strategically lead your people and organisation to enhance learning outcomes for students and increase engagement with your school community.

A Master of Education is for registered teachers who wish to develop their understanding of the various models of education leadership styles, in turn strengthen your leadership style. A Master of Teaching is for those who are looking to gain a teaching qualification.

We may recognise and grant credit for past education or qualifications in a process called advanced standing. If you're eligible for advanced standing, this can impact the number of units you need to study, reducing the time and cost of your overall degree.

To find out more about advanced standing, get in touch with one of our Enrolment Advisors on 1300 863 819.

There are three specialisations offered for students to choose from when undertaking our Master of Education.

  • Educational Leadership: Prepares you to make business-like decisions in an education context.
  • Educational Wellbeing: Provides a unique approach; focuses on the needs of teachers as well as learners
  • Educational Inclusion and Diversity: Develop the ability to create environments that foster lifelong learning

Alternatively, students can pick four units in total from all specialisations for a general Master of Education degree.

Advanced standing focuses primarily on receiving credit from previous academic study, such as an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, while RPL encompasses a wider range of learning experiences as well as professional work experience. Both processes provide the opportunity for you to have your prior learning recognised, thereby reducing the amount of time and effort required to complete the Master of Education online.
