Explores and compares a diverse range of healthcare systems, policies and practices, and their impacting factors. Includes the exploration of a range of inputs, throughputs and outputs based on system theory approaches.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  • Explore the differences between healthcare systems, policies and practices at national and international levels
  • Critique and distinguish the strengths and weaknesses of private, public, regulated and deregulated healthcare systems, policies and practices
  • Analyse and critique a range of social, cultural, environmental, economic and political factors as well as various types of population health outcomes to evaluate the success of healthcare systems, policies and practices
  • Propose a vision for the success of a healthcare system, policy and practice within health, social and community care settings
