Unit description

Analyse and evaluate the concept and the role of governance and accountability in the health, social and community care settings. Students are provided with opportunities to develop critical perspectives through examining their worldview of service improvement and effective health, social and community care outcomes.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  • Understand and review the key principles of governance and accountability within the health, social and community services and their impact on decision-making
  • Demonstrate the linkage between healthcare governance, accountability, and develop a framework for service evaluation and improvement
  • Critically evaluate the internal and external factors affecting the ways in which health workers interact with each other and the effect this has on the safe and quality services for consumers
  • Report on the legal implications of governance and accountability in health, social and community services
