Enhance your knowledge of accounting processes, from recording transactions in journals and ledgers to preparing financial statements. This unit will enhance your ability to apply knowledge in a real business setting, and to exercise professional judgement and communicate information concerning business practices with stakeholders. You’ll become highly competent in all things accounting, and be ready to use tools like cash-flow statements. In this unit, you will study:

  • Introduction to financial accounting
  • Recording transactions in the accounting cycle using double-data entry accounting
  • Accounting for business operation I
  • Accounting for business operation II
  • End of period processes
  • Statements of cash flows
  • Analysis and interpretation of accounting information

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the concepts of double entry accounting, accrual accounting and the accounting cycle
  • Analyse accounting information and record business transactions in financial documents within accounting cycle
  • Present, analyse and interpret financial information using the language of business to communicate with stakeholders effectively
  • Understand internal control and AASB regulatory framework that govern the measurement and disclosures of accounting information

You are assessed according to the following components, each with its own weighted value against your overall result:

  • Quiz: 20%
  • Reflective Learning Journal: 30%
  • Exam (closed book): 50%
